Description Worcestershire NHS
Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust was established on 1 July 2011 to manage the vast majority of the services which were previously managed by Worcestershire Primary Care NHS Trust's Provider Arm, as well as the mental health services that were managed by Worcestershire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust. Bringing together the range of services provided by the two organisations has offered opportunities to improve integration and partnership working which are central to the new Trust’s objectives.
Services not provided directly by the PCT are 'commissioned' or purchased from other local health bodies such as Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (which runs Worcestershire Royal Hospital, the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, and Kidderminster Hospital), Worcestershire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust and West Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust. In addition, contracts are placed within the county with 67 GP practices, 91 pharmacies, 68 dental practices, five dental access centres, and 65 opticians premises from which 144 opticians operate.
